Cook the spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain.

Sauté the garlic: While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until golden brown. Be careful not to burn it!
